It’s common knowledge that many marriages end in divorce. While we spend the majority of our time trying to educate those going through a divorce themselves, we think it’s also important to cover divorce support friends of divorcees can offer. Below are several general tips on how to offer a friend divorce support.
Divorce Support Tips
- Avoid passing judgment on their marriage and/or ex-spouse. The last thing your friend needs is additional negative energy surrounding them during this difficult time. Instead, focus on being a good listener. It’s common for people going through a difficult time to vent or complain more than usual. Just being there to listen may be the best thing you can do for them.
- Allow your friend to make their own decisions. We’ve seen it time and again where friends try to help by offering their advice to only confuse the situation more. Trust your friend’s good instincts and empower them to make their own decisions.
- Know when to offer your help. The transition from being married to single can be difficult and your friend may need someone there to help during the adjustment period. Offer to cook dinner or watch their kids if you see them becoming increasingly stressed. Even a few hours off from normal responsibilities can allow them time to mentally recharge.

Divorce Refinance Through Mortgage Specialists
We take great pride in helping our clients through this difficult time. Below is a detailed review from one of our divorce clients. You can view the review on our Google reviews from June 2019.
“If you are going through divorce and trying to buy a home (even if you are a “normal” home buyer) – do yourself a favor and DO NOT look any further than Mortgage Specialists!
Not only did they deliver knocking it out of the park, they made it almost effortless on my part!
My situation: third home I’ve purchased over years, going through the divorce process without final decree, hectic schedule balancing work/life, selling a home at the same time, repairs needed to home, kids and activities.
I don’t think Mortgage Specialists do themselves enough service in advertising to people in my situation of going through a divorce. I started my pre-approval process with a “big bank” which has serviced all my previous mortgages and/or refinances in one form or another over the years, and never had problems with them (smooth in fact). The pre-approval questionnaire for me was easy – I make enough and my credit is excellent – they said no problems getting me approved. Then underwriting happens and that is where the divorce will stop your approval in its tracks.
For two months I sat in underwriting at the “big bank” trying to get over the hurdle of having a “separation agreement” calling out my duty/lack thereof for child support and alimony. Without this, I would not go further. I tapped into my personal network and connections and approached 3 other lenders and all threw up the same roadblock on financing and not being able to approve without the divorce decree separation agreement.
Then, I was referred to Brent at Mortgage Specialists. From the moment that we started the conversation, Brent assured me that all hope shouldn’t be lost. Taking the time for me to gather my own documentation out of the picture, Mortgage Specialists had the pre-approval done in less than one day. Then they sent my file to underwriting and a couple days later I was approved with a valid offer letter in hand. Weeks of hopelessness with other companies resolved in a matter of days/week with Mortgage Specialists.
Brent was the “face man” for Mortgage Specialists, but I interacted with the rest of his team as well. Every person and every interaction was met with little to no effort from me – they walked me through / held my hand in the whole process. Their communication and response time was timely, a few examples of a couple hour response time even after business hours and on weekends!
Brent even met me at closing to shake my hand and offer any more service than they did up to that point.
I wish my previous home purchases would have been handled by these guys, I will not look any further in the future. From start to finish, they FAR exceeded any sort of expectation I could’ve ever had. Awesome job, and thank you to them!“
