Having been in the mortgage business for so many years, I’ve picked up on some of the more important steps to take to ensure a stress-free home building process.
Visit the site weekly and take pictures. Schedule time with your builder to go over the details and progress, and be sure to take pictures to help identify exactly where pipes and electrical connections are.
Pad your timeline. Weather is just one of many factors that can slow down the building process, especially in the fall and winter. Consider this also from the perspective of selling your existing home. No one wants to be between homes for a stretch of time.
Look for builder’s incentives. The great thing about building your home is the customization. You can really tailor your home to your family’s needs. However, those customizations can add up very quickly. When deciding which builder to go with, ask about incentives.
